My American Fear

I was teaching, coaching and training full time. The results were mind-boggling.

As I worked with clients on polishing their interiors, their exteriors began to shine too. They looked, talked and acted differently. Their pace of life and energy shifted. Their lives transformed.

Every metamorphosis that I witnessed astounded me: Losing 20 to 30 pounds. Developing clearer and brighter skin. Attaining raises and promotions. Establishing businesses. Moving abroad. Getting engaged. Feeling calm for the first time.

From Failure to Freedom

My second superpower is my intuition. I do not analyze before I act. I just get a feeling – and go for it.

Within six months to a year of taking my first yoga class, I knew that I wanted to be a yoga teacher.

My practice had evolved from excruciating to emancipating. I remember forming triangle pose one class and thinking: “Huh. This is no longer miserable.” I developed flexibility, strength and body awareness. As I witnessed how quickly and deeply yoga was transforming me, I wanted to share it with others.

From “Success” to Stress

In early 2006, I found myself working my way up the corporate ladder. The only things on my mind were money and status. I had graduated from a top business school and was primed to become rich and powerful. I was also well on my way to becoming an asshole.

I have always known that I was born to be a leader. By my early 20s, I also had the car, the beach apartment, the clothes and the attitude to prove it. I felt as if I were on the path to achieving everything I had ever wanted.

Audaciously S.M.A.R.T. Goals

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; thoughts become things. I’ve been diving into a classic book entitled “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, who takes this even further when he says: “Money is the transmutation of desire into it’s tangible equivalent.” What he’s saying is that whatever you desire must first be conceived in the intangible world of thought before it can be brought into the physical world of form. The act of writing down your thoughts brings this process one step closer to reality as it directly transfers your desires into something you can see, touch and feel.

5 Big Takeaways From 2015

2015 was a big, powerful year for myself and as a result for many of my students and private clients alike. I’m not saying that to brag but to highlight the main theme of “The Big Yogi”;
Inspire, Move and Transform. My perspective and teachings revolve around the principal of filling yourself up first in order to be of greater value and service to the community and the world. The power to make change starts with the ability to inspire yourself to move towards transformation. You have got to get clear on who you want to be and how you want your life to be, then you can take this energy and purpose outward and share it. This blog represents my takeaways and personal experience with these principals and teachings over the past year and is in the first person for this reason. I offer myself as a tool for you to reflect on your own big takeaways from 2015.

Four Big Nutrition Rules

At the end of 2013, I planned to gain 20 pounds over a three-month span; I would attempt to do so by drinking calories and adding grains and dairy back into my diet. My point was to show how much diet regulates our mental health and physical appearance.  I managed to gain 10 pounds in under one month before throwing in the towel. I started to break out in pimples, my energy levels were shot, I was irritable as hell and I generally just felt like crap. The picture below shows the results  of switching back to my regular diet of lean proteins, veggies and healthy fats with no dairy or grains, A.K.A.“The Paleo Diet”.  In three short months (without changing my workout routine or doing cardio) I dropped back down to my previous physique and feel better than ever. The way I did it was actually quite simple and only involved a few nutritional guidelines.  Here they are:

Yoga for Strength: Improve Your Yoga Practice Through Weight-Lifting

To create your ultimate body and unlock your yoga practice, it’s time to start lifting weights. When it comes to yoga for strength, yoga and weight lifting are a match made in heaven. They are the ultimate compliments for improved improve body composition, increased strength and flexibility and decreased pain.

I have been lifting weights since I was a teen. But, as I got more into yoga, I began to move away from weight training. I simply couldn’t figure out a way to combine the two that made sense. A few years ago however, I began to put the puzzle together.

What I eventually formulated is the topic of today’s blog: how to combine yoga and weight training for maximum results and strength.

The Power of Intention: How do you want to be?

“Thoughts become things.” It’s a cheesy line from The Secret, but it’s a dead accurate statement. Notice everything around you, notice everything that has been created. From a huge skyscraper to the electronic device you are reading this on, It was all once just a pipe dream. Everything that’s been created started as a thought, an idea, an intention. It took the foresight, dream and effort of someone to create that which had never been created before. This is how thoughts become things, this represents the power of intention.
