Your Relationship Is Your Problem

We obsess over our relationship status in our society.

Can I call her my girlfriend yet? When is he going to propose? Can I leave her and start over? Can I omit that I am a divorcée? Will my tombstone read: “SINGLE”? And maybe the most troubling: Am I lovable?

As we fixate on a relationship with a partner, we overlook that we are all in relationship, at all times, to everything in our lives. How we are in these relationships determines how our experience looks and feels in every moment of our lives, which is longer than most romances endure.

Our relationship to our world ultimately determines our levels of stress and, as a result, our levels of happiness. So let’s pay more attention to it.Read more

Choice. It is a powerful word, one that places its commander at the helm of the ship.

We often hear people say: I do not have a choice. I have to do this.” “I have to do that.

These statements are dangerous. They plant the seeds for so much stress in our world.

I already can hear how you are responding: But I have to do certain things. I have to work, and there is no way around it.

The Power of Patience and the Choice to Shake Stress

 As I sit here on the beach in Costa Rica, one word keeps gently crashing into my mind: patience.

What I see and feel is that patience has become a lost art. We are told, especially in the West, that we deserve and should receive everything we want – now. But this is a lie and a major source of stress.

The art of cultivating patience is multifaceted. It involves patience for one’s body, mind, spirit and, ultimately, one’s life. This same encompassing view of patience also applies to everyone and everything that we encounter in life – regardless of whether we agree with them.

Stress has gotten a lot of bad press lately, and the coverage is a little unfair. Let’s take a deep breath and give stress a break for once. Moreover, let’s thank it for doing its job.
